This Sunday, Aug. 17, the Callaway Volunteer Fire & Rescue will host their Annual BBQ Fundraiser. Please come out and support our Fire & Rescue District! They will be serving pulled pork & BBQ beef sandwiches from 5 – 7:30 p.m. Home deliveries can be arranged by contacting any fire department member or by calling 308-870-5255. Jordan and Quina Hamilton of Callaway announce the birth of a daughter on Aug. 3, 2025, at Gothenburg Health. Verabelle Lanora Hamilton was born at 2:17 p.m. weighing 8 pounds 1 ounce and measuring 19.5 inches in length. Verabelle is being welcomed by a brother, Gideon Cooper Hamilton, and sister, Nyx Cia Hamilton. Grandparents are Mark and Joan Hamilton of Nampa, Idaho, and Michael and Jayna Porter of Orem, Utah.

This past weekend saw hundreds of people with the need for speed converge on Arnold and Callaway for the 25th annual Sandhills Open Road Challenge. Along with the road races, the drivers also got a chance to show off their prized automobiles - and though I don’t understand all about horsepower and mechanics, I do appreciate a pretty car.

The final step in the process of changing ownership of a Callaway business has been completed. At their regular monthly meeting on July 22, the Callaway Village Board unanimously approved a request for a liquor license for Sand Creek Bar, formerly Henry’s Bar.

50 YEARS AGO: Over 80 persons from Callaway, Arnold, Stapleton, Oconto, and Eddyville attended a meeting at the Callaway fire hall in a fight to keep the Kearney railroad branch open between Stapleton and Arnold. Larry Mowrey of Callaway Ag Service presided over the meeting.

With the help of our amazing community and the Custer County Foundation, the Callaway Good Life Center was able to raise $18,731.82 during the Breakfast Fundraiser held in conjunction with the 2025 Pioneer Picnic. These generous donations will be put towards the new building plans. Transportation Available to Nearly Anywhere

The office of the Callaway District Hospital public transit service has a new home. The transportation program was implemented by the hospital three years ago, and CEO Brett Eggleston says many local people still don’t understand the full scope of the services the program provides.
