As a clinical professor at my state’s medical school, I frequently have medical students seeing patients with me in the clinic. While the majority of patients are happy to allow student involvement, some decline. This makes me wonder what misconceptions lead patients to be averse to trainees participating at their clinic visits or hospital bedsides. In my experience, the presence of learners has a positive influence on our work in the clinic and hospital.

Like nearly every place else in town, Callaway Public Schools received damage during the June hail storm. Superintendent Bryon Hanson happily reported to the school board at the July 11 meeting that the insurance adjuster has gathered all the information he needs to move forward.

4-H Shows at County Fair Start This Week

The 2022 Custer County 4-H Public Fashion Show will be held at the Evangelical Free Church in Broken Bow at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21. Everyone is invited to attend to watch the 4-H’ers who are enrolled in many different clothing projects model their projects.

Lower Loup NRD and Nebraska Forest Service staff have identified a rare butterfly in the Lower Loup NRD Arboretum in Ord. While working in the Arboretum on the morning of July 11, 2022, District Forester Rich Woollen and LLNRD Information Specialist Alan Bartels noticed a large black and orange butterfly fly by that didn’t look familiar.

Strong Winds Cause Damage in Custer County

BROKEN BOW - Cell phone Emergency Alerts sounded just after 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 16 as the National Weather Service issued Severe Thunderstorm Warnings with destructive 90 MPH winds. The warning proved true as now, days later, the sound of chainsaws can be heard in all directions as Custer County residents continue the clean-up process following Saturday night’s storm.

The Callaway Chamber is sponsoring a Best Yard Contest to promote maintaining and keeping up your yard during the summer. Submit your nominations to Stacey or Kelsey at First Interstate Bank, now until Aug. 10 for the August Winner! Once a month we will select a winner based on the number of nominations received. Board Unveils Proposed Pool Project to Residents

Earlier this year the Village of Callaway was notified that they had been approved for a grant to help plan and design a new swimming pool in the community. On Wednesday, July 13, an information open house was held at the Community Center to provide residents with a look at the proposed design, and answer questions relating to the pool and its impact on the community.
