Nansel Family Gathers For Annual Reunion

The children and grandchildren of Charles and Kitty Nansel gathered at the home of Terry and Melanie Sheen in Grand Island for their annual Labor Day Reunion. The festivities began on Wednesday when Linda Lawrence, Lance and Diane Stryker arrived and the Strykers along with the Sheens attended a concert at the State Fair. Others started arriving on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday until all had arrived, a total of 49.

West Nile Found in LBPHD Region

The Loup Basin Public Health Department has reported a positive mosquito finding for West Nile virus in Garfield County. At this time, no positive human cases have been reported in the district. August and September are typically the months in which most human West Nile cases are reported.

Grant Benefits CHS Music Department

The Custer County Foundation presented a check to the Callaway Public Schools Music Department on Aug. 26.
The school used the grant to help purchase a new tuba. Foundation members said they are “pretty sure” this is
the first grant that has been awarded for a new tuba!

Lady Bobcats Claim Home Tournament Title

The Medicine Valley Raiders threatened to steal the championship plaque from the Lady Bobcats during the 38th Annual Seven Valleys Volleyball Tournament in Callaway, and nearly did by forcing three very close games. But the Bobcats dug deep and found the focus and tenacity to win and bring home the top placing for the seventh consecutive year.
