Trying to keep up with all the changes in laws and guidelines can be challenging and confusing. The Courier is committed to doing what we can to help keep our readers updated on those things that specifically impact our region. We thank Sen. Tanya Storer for weekly updates on what is happening with our State Legislature, and in our continuing effort to keep you informed, we will be adding a new feature called Get In The Know. This is the first installment of what we hope will become a weekly column.

A relatively new style of competition is taking Nebraska by storm, and we want to invite you to be a part of it! Cowboy Dressage World Nebraska is a grass-roots non-profit organization dedicated to improving the performance horse and is a member of Cowboy Dressage World. Our group sponsors family-friendly practices and events for horsemen and women who are passionate about growing their horsemanship skills.

There is an epidemic in our nation that cannot be prevented by vaccination or treated with a pill. It is typically silent and goes undiagnosed until it eventually reaches a breaking point. It’s the condition of perfectionism…and it is running rampant.

If you were born before 1990, chances are you have used a pay phone at some point in your life or at least familiar with them. Perhaps, like me, you have memories of shoving quarters into the slot before your time ran out so you could keep talking to your friend. Kids today will never know that feeling.

The 2nd Annual Basketball Bible Camp Fundraiser was held on Saturday, Feb. 7, in Arnold. The 3rd/4th grade girls and boys brackets were played at the Arnold Community Center, with the 5th/6th grade girls and boys games held at the high school.

In an effort to make towns and cities more livable for seniors, AARP Nebraska has opened its annual Community Challenge grant application window. Projects can be awarded anywhere from a few hundred to tens of thousands of dollars.

JAIL REPORT The Custer County Jail had three male and no female inmates as of Feb. 9, 2026, according to Custer County Sheriff Dan Osmond.

We I’ve written a book entitled “The Naturalist’s Almanac” which chronicles the natural history of our area. That “Almanac” talks about the cyclic nature of the natural world.
