Apply Today for Down Payment Assistance Funds

Have you found a home to purchase, but you need down payment assistance to make homeownership a reality? Then our Down Payment Assistance Program may be just for you! Central Nebraska Housing and Economic Developers (CNHED) provides down payment assistance funds, and minor rehabilitation funds, to income-qualified families who are looking to purchase a home. These funds are available to households in our 14-county region, which includes: Blaine, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Custer, Garfield, Greeley, Holt, Keya Paha, Loup, Rock, Sherman, Valley, and Wheeler Counties.

Bank Employees Efforts Pay Off For The Village

Employees of The First Interstate Bank of Callaway submitted a grant application recently from the First Interstate Bank Foundation for assistance with the wind storm cleanup. The bank foundation granted them $5,000 for that purpose. The funds must be run through a 501 (C) (3) In order to be dispersed. That's where the Callaway Community Foundation comes in.

Doggett Wins Steer Wrestling Competition

It was a busy weekend for high school rodeo contestants, including Callaway’s Dawson Doggett. Doggett competed in Grand Island on Labor Day Monday, winning the steer wrestling in a time of 7.2 seconds. The young cowboys and cowgirls also competed in rodeos at the Nuckolls County Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday.

With New Knowledge Comes New Discoveries

My son is a Boy Scout. Hopefully, he will become an Eagle Scout like his dad, his grandpa, his uncle, and not to mention eleven of the twelve men that walked on the moon. Whether he does or not, it has been an honor seeing the program help him and other boys mature into responsible young men.

It’s that time of year. The time for insect explosions. The flies and mosquitoes are out, the cicadas and katydids are “singing the sun down” each night and the field cricket young are emerging. I just talked about that with an individual last week and this week they are everywhere.

The Callaway Volunteer Fire Department recently appointed a new EMT Chief, and Mark Buss is on a mission to improve the emergency medical services of the community. One way Buss is doing that is by inspecting and updating all of the AEDs throughout the village.
