The cold temperatures did little to dampen the excitement of the kiddos, as a large crowd of candy seekers converged on Morgan Park on Saturday, March 30, for the annual Easter Egg Hunt.

The event is hosted by the Callaway EMTs with assistance from the Callaway Chamber of Commerce.

Robin Hood Appears in Callaway

Each year the Callaway Elementary students, under the direction of music instructor Brenner Beavers, demonstrate their singing, acting, and stage skills by performing a musical production for the public. This year’s play was Robin Hood, The Musical, and was performed on Saturday, March 23.

Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week

The Nebraska Corn Board (NCB) and Nebraska Soybean Board (NSB) have partnered together for the 2024 Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week because everyone deserves to go home from work each day. The goal is to raise awareness among farmers and agricultural workers about the importance of safety when working in and around grain bins. This initiative also emphasizes the significance of overall safety practices on the farm.

National Vietnam War Veteran's Day

Each year on March 29 Vietnam Veterans are recognized on National Vietnam War Veterans Day. It's a time to pay special tribute to the 9 million American men and women who served, the 58,000 names memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC, and to those who never received the recognition they deserved when they returned home from war.

Episcopal Church basement windows have been permanently enclosed with cement blocks to prevent animal entrance and vandalism. The cement block work was done by Brent Urbanovsky of Arnold. (Photo courtesy Jo Chesley) The Callaway Community Center will be the site of the Spring Fling on Friday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guests are invited to shop the large assortment of home made goodies including cinnamon rolls, cakes, and breads, along with hand made crafts.

Senior Spotlight: Following Desire To Help Kids Like Her

Jazlynn Raydean Bechtold is a senior at Callaway High School, and takes pride in the fact that she is the first generation to graduate from high school. That was one of many facts about herself and future plans that she shared in her senior presentation to the student body.

Board Appoints New Member

The Callaway Board of Education has a new member as of March 11. Two individuals threw their hats in the ring to fill a vacancy left on the board by Vince Guthrie, who relocated out of the district.

 The Callaway Board of Education approved Rebecca Eggleston as the candidate to replace Vince Guthrie on the school board moving forward. NDED Provides Tax Credit For Pool Donations

PRESS RELEASE

The Callaway Community Foundation is excited to announce that we have received $25,000 in tax credits from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. These funds are issued to communities through the Community Development Assistance Act. Callaway was awarded these funds for the swimming pool project. The funding date runs from October 31, 2023, to October 30, 2024.

The Callaway swimming pool is getting closer every day to completion and looking like the rendition above. New tax credits funds for the Callaway Community Foundation create an extra benefit for those interested in helping financially with the project. (Courier file photo)
