The South Loup cross country team had a long break between competitions, which may be both a good thing and a bad thing. After running at the Ravenna Invite on Sept. 17, the Bobcats were finally back on the course on Monday, Sept. 28, at the highly competitive UNK Invitational in Kearney.

Senior Jade Bierman was the top finisher for the Bobcats. With a time of 22:01.7, Bierman finished in 25th place. Chloe Coleman ran a time of 23:47.8, and Delanie Weinman finished with a time of 24:42.4. Lia Russell finished in a time of 25:29.0, and Danielle Burd ran a time of 26:49.7. Tasia Trotter rounded out the Bobcats’ women's team with a time of 30:28.0.

There were 233 entries in the women’s division at UNK that finished the race. A total of 41 schools were represented, with South Loup finishing in a respectable 12th place overall in the team standings.

Senior Walter Bierman represented the Bobcats in the men’s division, where his time of 18:35.8 put him in 31st place. Jaden Baker, a junior, also competed and ran his best time of the season of 21:03.1. There were a total of 354 entries that finished the men’s race.

The next competition for the cross country team will be the conference meet on Tuesday, Oct. 6, in Arnold. Districts will be held in Neligh on Oct. 15.
