The Callaway Community Foundation Fund board held its regular business meeting the evening of Monday, Feb. 21. President Corby Leeper called the meeting to order at 5:10 p.m. There were eight current and two incoming members present and two current members absent.

If a picture is worth 1,000 words, the stories to be told through beautiful images taken within the Lower Loup Natural Resources District are endless. Officials hope for a flood of stunning entries with the announcement of their 2022 Lower Loup NRD Photo Contest.

Area residents were treated to songs and stories of the American West during an evening of entertainment at the Nigel Sprouse Memorials Library in Callaway on Feb. 21.

To commemorate her birthday, actress/vocalist Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was 'My Favourite Things' from the legendary movie 'Sound Of Music'. Here are the lyrics she used: (Sing It!) -If you sing it, it's especially hysterical!

The need for adequate housing seems to be a problem everywhere, even in rural communities like Callaway. Homes for sale or rent are difficult to come by in small towns. That is a need that Lane Chesley is trying to meet.

Whether wading in a marsh teaching children why wildlife needs clean water, or helping with high school land judging contests, each NRD’s Information and Education professionals know ecosystems benefit when youngsters learn about conservation.

Mark your calendars for Friday, March 18 for the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry at the Callaway Community Center. Serving will be from 5:30 - 7 p.m. Cost for adults is $10, ages 6-12 is $5.00, and under 6 is free.

The Callaway Senior Center will host their monthly birthday party on Wednesday, March 16 at noon at the center. All seniors are invited. This is a great opportunity for good food and fellowship, and a way to stay connected with your friends and neighbors. The birthday party is held on the third Wednesday of each month at noon.

The 7,932-square-mile Lower Loup NRD is Nebraska’s largest, stretching from the Sandhills 156 miles to just east of Columbus. LLNRD technicians noticed municipal, commercial and irrigation well levels near Columbus falling from 2010 to 2014.
