Last week’s weather left residents feeling more like they were living in Alaska than Nebraska! Snow, wind, and wind chill temperatures of more than -20, prompted Gov. Jim Pillen to issue a state of emergency for the entire state and resulted in the cancellation or postponement of nearly all school events.

All South Loup sporting events scheduled for Jan. 12 and 13 were postponed. Rescheduled dates for those events had not been determined as of press time. Both of the Bobcats basketball teams, and the wrestling team, were back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

The boys and girls basketball teams were on the road to face Arcadia/Loup City, while the wrestling team hosted a dual at Arnold. Results of those contests were not available at the time of press and will be featured in next week’s Courier.

The boys' basketball team is putting together a great season so far, with a record of 9-1 heading into Tuesday’s game. Their only loss came early in the season, week two to be exact, to Amherst. Their next regularly scheduled game is tonight (Jan. 18) at Ansley-Litchfield. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Lady Bobcats have seen their share of struggles on the court heading into this week with a 3-8 record. They were on the road to face the 2-9 Arcadia/Loup City Rebels on Tuesday; the results of that game were not available at press time. The Lady Bobcats are also back on the court this evening at Ansley-Litchfield, with a 6:30 tip-off. The Spartans entered this week with a 2-10 record. The wrestling team was to compete in the SEM Invitational on Friday, Jan. 12, and the Sandhills-Thedford Invite on Saturday. Both of those were postponed with rescheduled dates not yet announced as of press time. The Bobcats will host their home invitational on Friday in Callaway. Matches are set to begin at 11 a.m. It is the final regularly scheduled meet of the season for South Loup. The district meet is scheduled for Feb. 9.
