Victorious Week Heading To Sub-Districts
Despite having four players on the injured list, including two seniors, the Lady Bobcats persevered and beat the Lady Coyotes of Anselmo Merna in an explosive game last Tuesday, and easily defeated Hi-Line on Friday in Eustis.
Hosting the Lady Coyotes in Arnold for an evening of games dedicated to Arnold resident and Anselmo-Merna teacher, Jason Reed who was recently severely injured in an auto accident, the Lady Bobcats led through three quarters. But the Lady Coyotes found the gas pedal and were able to make up a 9-point deficit and tie the game at 41-41 with less than 2 minutes to go. The Lady Bobcats had lost starter Bryn Schwarz to fouls and were trying to keep the ball out of Coyote paws long enough to seek out the win. With a few seconds remaining on the clock, senior Ava Pandorf headed to the free throw line, and sank both of her shots to win 41-43.
Pandorf led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Schwarz with 8, and Lauryn Johnson with 7 points. Schwarz was 4 for 4 at the free throw line, and Pandorf had one 3-pointer.
Senior Abby Stallbaumer had 11 rebounds, and Johnson pulled down 6 more.
On Friday, the Lady Bobcats handily beat the Hi-Line Bulls by an easy 20 points, 58-38.
By the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bobcats had nearly double the points of their opponents, 18-10, and by halftime, the gap had widened to 30-17. The third quarter saw the Lady Bobcats rack up 14 more points to the Bulls 6 points, and the fourth quarter was also fruitful for the Bobcats with 14 more points.
Pandorf again was the high scorer with 17 points, followed by Stallbaumer with 15 points, including a crowd captivating 3-pointer in the fourth quarter. Schwarz and Josie Reiff also added 8 points each.
The Lady Bobcats traveled to Southern Valley on Monday for the first round of sub-districts against the Sutherland Lady Sailors. Results were not available as of press time.
