South Loup Golfers Are Conference Runner-Up
The South Loup varsity golf team hit the links in Thedford on Thursday, April 30, for the Mid Nebraska Athletic Conference (MNAC) golf tournament. Also participating in the meet were Mullen, Anselmo-Merna, Sandhills Valley, and Sandhills/Thedford.
The Bobcats finished the day as conference runner- up, with Mullen claiming the team title.
The conference champion was Mullen’s Ben Werner who shot a 75, with his teammate Jacob Walker just one stroke behind for second place.
Haydn Stretesky led the Bobcats, shooting 45 on the front nine and 44 on the back half to finish with 89, good for fourth place overall. Crew Witthuhn finished with the sixth-place medal, as he shot a 50 and 45 for a total of 95. His brother Callan was right behind him, with a 47 and 50. His 97 earned him the seventh-place medal.
Also finishing in the top 10 was Dawson Downing with 102 for ninth place. Kyson Stretesky shot a 106.
The JV team competed in a triangular on Monday, April 27, in Arnold, with the Bobcats golfers claiming the top four spots. Dawson Downing came in first with 48, followed by Asher Evans with 49. Kyson Stretesky was third with 57, and matching that score for fourth place was Piper Strasburg.
The team was back in action on Wednesday as they headed back to Thedford, and are at a meet at North Platte St. Pat’s today, May 7. The Bobcats have just one meet on the schedule next week when they travel to Mullen on May 13.
