The South Loup men’s golf team concluded their 2024 season at the NSAA Class D Boys State Golf Meet on May 21 and 22, played at Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte.

In Round 1 play on Tuesday, Dawson Doggett led the Bobcats with a 92. He bettered that score by one stroke on Wednesday, shooting 91, to end the tournament with a total score of 183 for the two days. That put him in a tie for 54th place overall.

Cache Gracey had a bit of a rough start to the tournament, coming in with a 99 at the end of day one. Gracey found his groove on the second day, however, shooting a very respectable 85 to finish with a 41 over par total score of 185 to tie for 62nd place overall.

cont. PAGE 8 - Golf Joey Sallach also struggled on day one, carding a 105 and putting himself in a position with lots of ground to make up. He did just that on Wednesday, shooting an 85 to finish in a tie for 69th place.

Not far behind was Harper Johnson, who finished Round 1 with a 99 but was able to shave 9 strokes off of that score in Round 2. Johnson’s two-day total of 189 tied him for 71st place.

Unlike his teammates, Haydn Stretesky shot better in the first round than the second. He finished play on Tuesday with a 97, and shot 99 on Wednesday. His total score of 196 tied him for 79th place.

While the Bobcats did not pick up any medals at the state meet, qualifying as a team was a huge accomplishment for these players and their coaches. For Doggett and Sallach the meet marked the end of their Bobcat athletic careers.

Gracey, Johnson, and Stretesky will all return for the Bobcats next year. The team is coached by Jared Rush.
