Lady Bobcats Win One, Lose One, To Open Season
The Lady Bobcats began their 2023-24 basketball season with back-to-back games on Friday, Dec. 1, and Saturday, Dec. 2, winning one and losing one.
On Friday the Lady Bobcats opened the season by hosting Twin Loup and were able to rack up 40 points on the board to Twin Loup’s 33. In was nip-and-tuck in the first quarter with the Wolves taking a 1 point lead, 8-7 at the end of the period. The Bobcats totally dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Wolves 13-2 to take a 20-10 lead into the halftime locker room.
The third quarter was a literal catfight, as each team added 13 points to the scoreboard. Though Twin Loup was able to outscore the Bobcats in the fourth, 10-7, it was not enough to overcome the first-half deficit as South Loup took the win.
The Lady Bobcats were led by Bryn Schwarz, who shot 7/12, including 2/3 from 3-point range to end the night with 19 points. Delaney Rogers added 10 points for the Bobcats. Rogers also led the team defensively pulling down 13 rebounds. Aubrie Birkel was close behind with 11 boards.
The Bobcats had to turn around and face a tough Amherst team the next day. They held their own during the first quarter, with the score 5-6 at the quarter buzzer. By the second quarter, the Broncos had found their groove and the Bobcats were never able to bridge the gap. Amherst took the victory 56-23.
Schwarz was once again the leading scorer for the Bobcats with 10 points, followed by Josie Reiff with 6.
The Lady Bobcats will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 8, as they host Cambridge in Arnold. The JV game will tip off at 4 p.m., and the varsity will take the court at 6 p.m. The girls will play at 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday in Callaway as they host Pleasanton.
