Lady Bobcats Continue Quest For Win
On Thursday, Sept. 12, Arnold was the host site of a game between the South Loup Bobcats and the 2023 State Runners-Up Gothenburg Swedes. Though they put up a good fight in the third, the Lady Bobcats fell to the Swedes in straight sets.
“Although South Loup was down, our student section was great. We appreciate our fellow students' support from the student section to the bench,” stated players Danah Baldwin and Anna Tullis.
One outstanding highlight of the JV game was when sophomore middle hitter Jade Bierman approached the net and hit the ball down onto Gothenburg's side of the court getting the kill and a point for the Bobcats!
One player from the varsity that stood out was Anna Tullis. She is always moving her feet on the court and is always hustling to get to the ball no matter where on the court she stands. The libero got a total of 10+ digs completed and up to the setter.
“We all knew that Gothenburg was going to be a hard team to beat so we went into our game having our main goal to have fun and play competitively,” said senior libero Tullis.
The Lady Bobcats were back on the court on Tuesday, Sept. 17, as Bertrand hosted a triangular with the Brady Eagles, Bertrand Vikings, and South Loup Bobcats. The Lady Bobcats started the games off against Bertrand.
In the first set, even though the Lady Bobcats were out of rotation, they still pushed through and kept within 2 points of their opponent. However, the push was just not quite enough, as the Vikings took the first set in a hard-fought battle 25-22.
The Bobcats came back ready to play in the second set, and many good things were accomplished compared to the first set. The first 11 points the Lady Bobcats stuck with them, but Bertrand’s tips got the best of South Loup as the Vikings easily took set two 25-9.
Head Coach Michelle Preston stated, “It was a tough night for the girls, but many good things still happened. We need to work through some things, but we still hope for our first win.”
There was no rest for the Lady Bobcats as right after the first game ended, they headed right into the second game. South Loup took on the Brady Eagles in a hard-fought game.
“Getting to play a team as good as Brady is an amazing experience every year and I’m super proud of the girls and how they fought through the game,” said varsity setter Riata Remund.
Brady came away with the win in two sets, 25-12 and 25-14.
The Lady Bobcats hosted a triangular on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Results of those games were not available at press time.
