The Lady Bobcats got a much-needed boost this past week, bringing home the championship trophy from the Gilson-Pierce Memorial Tournament in Maxwell. The Lady Bobcats are now 3-4 this season. This was the fourth consecutive year the Lady Bobcats have won the tournament.

Following four losses, with two of those being close and one being an overtime loss, the Lady Bobcats came prepared to win. And they achieved that goal - beating both Sandhills Valley and Maxwell by more than 20 points in each game.

The first round of play saw the Lady Bobcats facing off against the Sandhills Valley Mavericks, and the Bobcats coming out on top 48-27. By the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bobcats had outscored the Mavs 19-11, and kept the streak going.

At the end of the first half, the Lady Mavs had made a dent in the difference, but the Bobcats still led 28-16. South Loup defense kept Sandhills Valley from scoring much in the third, ending the quarter 43-22.

Senior Ava Pandorf scored 12 points, including two 3-pointers; followed by Abby Stallbaumer with 11 points; and Bryn Schwarz with 10 points. Taylor Ross led with nine rebounds, followed by Stallbaumer with six.

The Lady Bobcats advanced to the championship round to face off against the host team Maxwell on Tuesday night. Keeping the momentum going, South Loup beat the Wildcats 44-22.

The top scorer of the game was again Pandorf with 12 points, followed by Lauryn Johnson with 8 points; and Ross, Stallbaumer, and Schwarz with 6 points each. Junior Josie Reiff added 3 more points. Ross grabbed six rebounds, followed by Stallbaumer and Schwarz with five each.

The Lady Bobcats will travel to Hershey on Tuesday to play the Panthers with JV starting at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m.
