Lady Bobcats Battle Through MNAC Tourney
Starting on Thursday, Oct. 16, the Lady Bobcats worked through a tough MNAC tournament lineup, coming away at the end of the week with two losses and one win. All matches were played in neutral territory, hosted by Brady.
Thursday’s matchup was against the Mullen Broncos, and the Bobcats hit the court all fired up. The first set was a close one, with South Loup pushing Mullen all the way to the end, dropping the set by just three points, 22-25. The second set heated up for the Bobcats, as they ran out ahead of the Broncos and chalked up a win, 25-19. In the tiebreaker, the two teams battled it out once more, this time with Mullen coming away with the win, 20-25 for a final score of 2-1 in favor of the Broncos.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, second round action continued, with South Loup moving to the consolation bracket to face the Sandhills Valley Mavericks. The Mavericks gave South Loup a run for their money in set one, pushing the score to 26-24, with the Bobcats coming out the victor. However, in set two, the Bobcats hammered the Mavericks, winning the set 25-12 for a clean sweep of 2-0 on the game.
The Bobcats came straight off that win to challenge the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes for the final game of the tournament. Unfortunately, the South Loup ladies were unable to keep up with the Coyotes, losing set one 25-20 and dropping even further in the second set, 25-17 for a 2-0 loss to their neighbor to the east. Stats for the tourney were unavailable by press time.
On Tuesday, Oct. 21 the 6-21 Bobcats traveled to Stapleton to challenge the 13-12 Arthur County Wolves and the 6-19 Sandhills Valley Mavericks in a triangular, results to be posted in next week’s Courier.
