The South Loup golfers had an incredibly successful week on the links this past week, bringing home multiple medals from both JV and varsity meets.

The varsity team traveled to Mullen on Thursday to compete in the Mid-Nebraska Activities Conference (MNAC) tournament. Despite the winds, the team played spectacularly. As a team, they placed 3rd with 382 points - a new season record, nearly 20 strokes off their previous season-best.

“I thought this would be a chance to shoot under 400, and we ended up with a 378,” said head coach Jarod Rush. “By far our best day.”

Junior Dawson Doggett had 89 strokes, also a new season record, and an 8th place finish. Joey Sallach also shot an 89, for a 7th place finish, and a new season record by 10 strokes.

Grant Hrupka also set a new season record for himself with a 99 - a full 5 strokes off his previous season best.

Last Monday, the Bobcats hosted 20 JV golfers at the Arnold Golf Course and claimed four of the top 10 spots on the finisher’s list.

Dylan Handley was the top golfer of the day, hitting a 51 on the 9-hole course, to earn the gold medal. Kaden Paulsen and Brady Brestel finished 3rd and 4th, each shooting a 54. Freshman Haydn Stretesky finished in 6th place, with 56 strokes.

On Friday, the JV team had their second meet of the week at Mullen for a quick 9 holes of play. Brestel and Stretesky each had a total of 45 strokes to end up 1st and 2nd on the day.

“Brady and Haydn are both playing well and pushing for a varsity spot,” said Rush.

Neltje Reiff and Kaden Paulsen also brought home medals from the Mullen JV meet.

The Bobcats season continues on Thursday for the St. Pat’s Invitational at Rivers Edge Golf Course in North Platte with tee-off at 9 a.m.
