Though it may not have felt like it these past 24 hours, today (March 20) is officially the first day of Spring, and while buds form on the trees and the grass continues to green up golfing enthusiasts are itching to hit the course once again. For the South Loup boys’ golf team, that opportunity will come on Thursday, April 3, for the season’s inaugural meet at Amherst.

Jeff Cole has served as an assistant golf coach to Jarod Rush for the past three seasons, and this year he will take over the role of head coach. He will be assisted by Callaway High School alum and former Bobcat golfer, Garrett Hrupek.

The coaches and the players are excited to get the season underway and will be looking to at least match if not exceed the team's accomplishment of qualifying for the state tournament as a team last year. Haydn Stretesky, a junior, and senior Harper Johnson both golfed on last year’s state-qualifying team and will be returning to help lead the Bobcats this season.

“We’ll have a fairly inexperienced tournament team with the loss of a handful of seniors off last year’s team, but we have some players that I’m confident will step up and make us a competitive team,” said Coach Cole.
