Callaway Sisters Compete in National Shooting Competition
Three young ladies from Custer County participated in a national 4-H shooting sports competition last month. Josie Lehmkuhler from Arnold, and Kelynn and Kaygan Witthuhn from Callaway, were joined by Zane Meyer from Palmer on the team representing Nebraska at the National Championship shooting sports 25th anniversary in Grand Island June 22-27.
The team participated in a four-day competition for small bore pistol shooting, with the Nebraska team finishing in 10th place overall. Individually, Zane Meyer placed 33rd, Kaygan Witthuhn placed 37th, Josie Lehmkuhler placed 47th, and Kelynn Witthuhn placed 57th.
Coaches were Mike Lehmkuhler and Jeff Krivohlavek, who were assisted by Kylee Lehmkuhler. More than 750 competitors representing 38 states competed in the championship event. With all of the volunteers and coaches it takes to make the competition possible there were over 1,000 people participating. That does not even include family members and friends who gathered to watch their children.
The Nebraska team held fundraisers to pay for attending the competition, and the kids would like to thank everyone who helped make that possible.
