The South Loup volleyball team hit the road twice last week and ultimately split their three matches.

The first match of the week was on Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Ansley, where the Ansley/Litchfield Spartans were able to get the best of the Lady Bobcats in three sets, 25-20, 25-16, and 25-18.

Emma Stallbaumer tallied 6 kills in the match to lead the Lady Bobcats. Berklee Preston finished with 5 kills, Olivia Fitzgerald added 4, and Addison Dalrymple contributed 3 kills.

Preston was effective from the service line, putting down 4 aces. Dalrymple and Paityn Dailey each had 2 ace serves, while Fitzgerald and Rae Hagler each had 1 as well.

Charli Pandorf got the most defensive touches for the Bobcats and had 15 digs in the match.

On Thursday, Oct. 1, the Bobcats traveled to Stapleton for a triangular with Sandhills Valley and Twin Loup. They met the Wolves in the first match of the evening, and the first set was an exciting win. Twin Loup eventually won the set 25-23.

South Loup fought back in the second set, though, to get a 25-19 win and force a third. The Lady Bobcats weren’t able to hold on to the momentum from the second set win as the Wolves came back to win it 25-18, and take the match 2-1.

Next up was Sandhills Valley, and you could not have had a closer match. The teams exchanged points throughout the first set, with the Lady Bobcats finally getting the win 26-24.

Set two picked up where the first had left off, with the same scrappy intensity. The Bobcats were able to hold on in another close set to win 25-23 to sweep the match.

No stats for either of the triangular games were available.

The Lady Bobcats were back on their home court in Arnold on Tuesday, Oct. 6, as they hosted a triangular with Cambridge and Maxwell. Results of those matches were not available at press time.

This evening, Oct. 8, South Loup hosts Cozad in Callaway. Game times are 5 p.m. for reserves, 6 p.m. for JV, and 7 p.m. for varsity. The team will travel to Loup City for tournament play on Saturday, Oct. 10, with matches beginning at 9 a.m.
