Busy Week Prepares Lady Bobcats For MNAC
It was a busy week for the South Loup volleyball team, as they played six games in five days.
The week began on Tuesday, Oct. 6, when the Lady Bobcats hosted Maxwell and Cambridge for a “pink out” triangular in support of Breast Cancer Month and Riata’s Ripple in Arnold. Maxwell was the first opponent of the evening, and despite keeping the sets close the Wildcats held on to win in two sets, 25-21, 25-21.
Emma Stallbaumer and Asa Starr each had 4 kills in the match to lead the Bobcats attack, while Berklee Preston and Addison Dalrymple each added 3 kills. Olivia Fitzgerald had 2 kills, and Kamryn Kramer and Rae Hagler were each credited with 1 kill. Hagler also had 2 ace serves in the match.
Charli Pandorf was the key player on defense, coming up with 14 digs in the game.
In the second match of the night, Cambridge took set one by a final of 25-20, but the Bobcats roared back in the second set. After several lead exchanges and set points that had the fans on the edge of their seats, South Loup finally got the necessary 2-point lead to win the set 28-26 and force a third set. That one, however, went the Trojans’ way as Cambridge took the set 25-19 to win the match 2-1.
Stallbaumer finished the match with 7 kills, while Starr and Preston each added 4. Kramer had 3 kills, and Hagler, Fitzgerald, and Paityn Dailey all had 2 kills. Fitzgerald had a hot serve, nailing 3 aces.
On defense, Stallbaumer and Preston each finished the match with 3 blocks, and Pandorf came through with 18 digs for the Lady Bobcats.
The Bobcats stayed on their home court in Arnold for the Thursday, Oct. 8 contest with Cozad. Set one came down to the wire with the Haymakers coming out on top 25-23. However, Cozad took control and dominated the second and third sets, winning 25-6 and 25-14.
Preston led the offense with 5 kills, and Fitzgerald came up with 9 digs in the match to lead the defense.
On Saturday, Oct. 10, the Lady Bobcats traveled to Arcadia for a triangular, meeting the host team Arcadia/Loup City Rebels in the first match of the day. The Bobcats were able to get the win in the first set, 25-21, then narrowly lost set two 25-22, before dropping the third by a big spread of 25-8.
Next up for the Bobcats was Gibbon, and South Loup was finally able to get a much-needed match win, 25-10 and 25-22.
Their final opponent in the triangular was West Holt from Atkinson, and the Lady Bobcats once again found success. South Loup won both sets 25-20 to finish the day 2-1. No stats from the triangular were available as of press time.
This week, the Lady Bobcats compete in the MNAC tournament, with their first contest today, Oct. 15, in Thedford against Brady beginning at 4 p.m. They will then travel to Anselmo-Merna on Saturday for the conference tournament.
