Bobcats Third at SH-Thedford Invite
South Loup’s golf team got a bit of a reprieve on April 21 when the winds died down, giving them an opportunity to play without battling the elements.
The team, collectively, took third place out of the nine teams competing.
“As a team, our goal was to be under 400 and we did that with a 389,” head coach Jarod Rush said. “Guess we need to set our goals higher.” The day was not without a little bit of excitement as the scores came in and three teams were deadlocked for top honors.
“We tied for first place as a team with 389 with Burwell and Sandhills Valley,” Rush said. “Burwell ended up winning the team playoff.”
What Rush was most happy about, though, was the gains his golfers made in their individual performances.
“All five varsity golfers improved their scores,” he said. “Joey Sallach was under 100 with a 94 and that was good enough for the seventh place medal. His goal was to be under 100.”
Colbi Smith also had a day. Smith scorched the Thedford Golf Course for a 75, his best score of the year, earning him second place.
“He was edged out by a very good Burwell player who shot a 73,” Rush said.
Dylan Handley was good for a 107 on the day, placing 24th overall and Grant Hrupek shot a 113 on his round of 18 holes. Matthew Mannon rounded out the Bobcat golfers in action at Thedford with a 116.
The Bobcats are in the heat of their schedule with three meets between April 25 and April 30.
April 25 will see the Junior Varsity players hosting a triangular at the Arnold Golf Course. Then, on April 28, the Bobcats will take on the MNAC Field, also in Arnold. To round out the week, South Loup heads to Overton on April 29.
