The Bobcat golf team had weather made for golfing last Wednesday in Mullen - warm, sunny, and calm - and they took full advantage of the beautiful conditions to bring home runner-up team honors and a 4th and 9th place medal. The team had a season-best 360 points, a full 22 points over their previous team best.

Multiple players set new season-best scores on the links, as well.

Joey Sallach placed 4th with a season-best 85 strokes, followed by Dawson Doggett in 9th place with a season- high 88 strokes. They have consistently seen improvements this season, each tournament a bit better than the previous week, despite Mother Nature’s best attempt at ruining their season.

Senior Grant Hrupek shot a 91 for the day, also a season best score. Harper Johnson had the final seasonal improvement for the team with a score of 96 strokes.

The fifth member of the team, whose score was omitted from the team score, was Dylan Handley who shot a 109 - which is consistent with where he has been all season.

The Bobcats golf season came to an end last Monday at the D4 District tournament in Cambridge. The five varsity golfers fought wet and soggy conditions all day, which is a change from the dry and windy weather they have been accustomed to playing in most of the season.

Junior Joey Sallach was the top scoring player for the Bobcats with a 92 - putting him three strokes out of the top 10 and qualifying for the state tournament.

As a team, the Bobcats scored 418 points. Other members hitting the links included Dawson Doggett with a 105; senior Grant Hrupek with a 110; freshman Haydn Stretesky with a 111; and Dylan Handley with a 128.

The Bobcats will lose varsity player Hrupek and JV players Kaden Paulsen, Taylor Ross, and Lauryn Johnson to graduation.

Registration Still Open For Saturday’s Tournament

There is still time to register for the annual Scott B Cool memorial golf tournament to benefit the Arnold Teammates Mentoring Chapter. The tournament is Saturday, May 27 at the Arnold Golf Course. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

New this year are 3-person scramble teams in addition to the traditional 2-person scramble teams. The cost to register is still $50 and includes greens fees and a steak lunch, with locally-raised beef on the grill.

Team mulligans are available for a fee. Golf carts are first-come, first-served. A cash payout prize will be awarded to the top teams. Hole prizes donated by local businesses and individuals are also available.

Funds raised will help pay for mentoring activities and chapter administration - including background checks for prospective mentors, advertising, social events for mentors and mentees, and more.

The lunch is provided by the Scott B Cool Memorial Foundation.

Pre-registration is advised by calling Jason Wehnes at 402-469-7871 or Rose Bierman at 308-870-5300. Day-of registration is also available at the golf course.
