Bobcats Split Games In Opening Week of Season
On Friday, Dec. 1, the South Loup Bobcats made the trip to Sargent to play the Twin Loup Wolves. This would be the Bobcat's first game of a very promising-looking season. With a veteran team, the Bobcats had high hopes for this game and the rest of the season.
The Bobcats started off the game very strong and took the lead early. The Bobcats were having no trouble putting up points and in the first quarter, it looked as if this was going to be an offensive game.
When the second quarter came it was a very different ball game. Both defenses were starting to figure out the other team’s offense and there was not much scoring in the second quarter. The Bobcats were controlling the game for the entire first half and had a comfortable lead at halftime.
The third quarter rolled around and Twin Loup started to get some hope. After going on a scoring run they were right back in the game. A quick timeout by South Loup allowed the players to refocus and go out and score. The timeout changed the momentum and the Bobcats gained their comfortable lead back. The last quarter consisted of both teams going back and forth. The fourth quarter was action-packed with a close game that had the stands on their feet. The Bobcats were able to fight off the Wolves and get the win with a final score of 55-47. On Saturday, Dec. 2, South Loup made another road trip, this time to Amherst to face the Broncos. This game was going to be a test for the Bobcats, with Amherst returning a lot of their starters from last season. The Broncos started the game well and the Bobcats were struggling to defend the perimeter. A couple of three-pointers by Amherst and not much scoring for the Bobcats concluded the first quarter.
The second quarter was not much different with the Broncos controlling the game offensively. The struggling Bobcats went on a couple of scoring runs to give them hope, but Amherst continued to show their dominance.
The second half was very similar to the first with the Broncos not seeming to miss a shot. The Bobcats were doing anything and everything to try and get back in the game. However, the offensively dominant Broncos defeated the Bobcats by a final score of 28-62. The Bobcats return to action on Friday as they host Cambridge in Arnold, with JV tipping off at 5 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m.
