Bobcats Host Golf Invitational At Arnold Course
The South Loup golf team held its home meet last week on a chilly and windy Thursday at the Arnold Golf Course.
The Bobcats fielded two teams for the meet. Out of 10 teams, the Bobcat varsity team placed 4th with 406 points and the JV team placed 8th with 486 points. The varsity golfers were all close in points, with just a few strokes separating each player.
“I thought we had a decent day even with the wind,” said Head Coach Jarod Rush.
Junior Joey Sallach led the Bobcats with a total of 99 strokes, placing him in the top 15 individual golfers for the day and just two strokes from earning a medal. He scored a 44 on the first round and 55 on the second round. Just two strokes behind was Dawson Doggett with 101 total - 50 in the first round and 51 in the second round.
Dylan Handley and Brady Brestel each ended the day with a score of 103 - Handley scoring 55 in the first round and 48 in the second; Brestel stayed consistent with a 51 in the front nine hole and 52 in the back nine. Rounding out the varsity team was senior Grant Hrupek with 106 strokes, 59 in the first round and 47 in the second.
On the JV team, Harper Johnson scored 109 points total, a 61 on the front nine and 48 on the back nine. Freshman Haydn Stretesky shot a 119 - 58 points in the first round and 61 in the second round. Chance Dishman had a total 123 points on the day, scoring 66 in the first and 57 in the second.
The final two JV players hitting the links were Neltje Reiff and Kaden Paulsen, who both scored 135 points. Reiff scored 71 on the front nine and 64 on the back nine. Paulsen had 63 strokes in the first round and 72 in the second round.
“I’m really proud of our first-year golfers,” said Rush. “We had five playing their first round in a tournament and all did pretty well.”
The Bobcats will compete at River’s Edge Golf Course in North Platte on Thursday for the Hershey Panther Invitational.
