The South Loup boys basketball team started their season with back-to-back road games, but on Friday, Dec. 8, they finally headed home where they hosted the Cambridge Trojans.

Cambridge came into the contest at 3-0 while South Loup was 1-1, with their loss being to the number one ranked team in C2, ensuring that the game was to be great. To start the game both teams came out with punches of their own tying the game up at 10 apiece.

The second quarter would go on to favor the Bobcats with South Loup outscoring the Trojans 12-8. The Bobcats would go into the half with a lead of 22-18 over the Trojans.

The second half would exhibit a complete switch of momentum after the Trojans outmuscled the Bobcats 16-8. Heading into the fourth quarter the Bobcats would make up for the third with clutch 3-pointers down the stretch to take a 3-point lead with just seconds left. An incredible circus shot from Cambridge's point guard would send the game into overtime to spite the Bobcat's great fourth quarter.

The Bobcats would come out victorious though after a dominating overtime period. They outscored the Trojans in the overtime slot, 14-4.

Leading scorer for the Bobcats was Trey Connell with 22 points, followed closely by Cache Gracey with 21. Gracey and Crew Witthuhn each had 7 rebounds on the game while Connell added 6 boards.

The next day, Saturday, Dec. 9, the Pleasanton Bulldogs traveled to South Loup territory to play the Bobcats. The game tipped off and the Bobcats came out with a lot of energy, leading the Bulldogs at the end of the first quarter 19-9.

In the second the Bobcats would add another 4 points to their lead despite the challenging efforts that the Bulldogs put up. This left the Bobcats with a comfortable lead at half of 35-21.

The second half would be a continuation of the first with the Bobcats adding another 10 points to their lead, giving them a 64-40 win over the Bulldogs.

Gracey led the team in scoring with 25 points. Rio Remund pulled down 7 rebounds, and Connell came up with 4 steals on the night.

South Loup will host Medicine Valley on Friday, Dec. 15 in Callaway.
