Bobcats Get Big Win in Homecoming Game
The Bobcats finally got their first win of the season on Friday, Sept. 19, as they defeated Sandhills Valley. The win was made even sweeter by the fact that it was a very special night for the student athletes - Homecoming.
South Loup came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter of play, racking up 22 points while holding the Mavericks scoreless. The Bobcats added one touchdown, followed by a good 2-point conversion in each of the next three quarters.
The Mavericks were able to get the ball into South Loup’s endzone in the second quarter, but were unable to convert on the PAT. The final score was a big win for the Bobcats, 46-6.
Dylan Pandorf was 4-5 passing on the night for 48 yards. Callan Witthuhn was on the receiving end of two of those passes for 31 yards. Conner Paulsen added a 15-yard pass reception, and Crew Witthuhn had a catch good for two yards.
Paulsen led the team in rushing, with 89 yards on 14 carries. Crew Witthuhn ran the ball a dozen times for 51 yards, and Pandorf added 47 yards on 10 carries. Patrick Eggleston contributed 13 yards rushing on 4 carries.
Senior Paxton Bierman led the team on the defensive side of the ball with 5 solo tackles and 8 assists, and came up with 3 tackles that resulted in lost yardage for the Mavericks. Crew Witthuhn ended the night with 5 total tackles, 2 for a loss with one being a quarterback sack, while Pandorf had 8 tackles, and Paulsen had 6 with 1 for a loss.
The Bobcats were also able to pick off five Maverick passes, with Crew Witthuhn hauling in 2 interceptions for 23 yards. Also getting an interception in the game were Pandorf, Elijah Cool, and Tysen Schacher. Cool and freshman Jett Morgan also each recovered a Sandhills Valley fumble. The Bobcats are back in action on Friday, Sept. 26, when they host West Holt in Arnold. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
