Bobcats Finish District Runners-Up, Qualify For State Golf Meet

Monday, May 13, was a successful day for the South Loup golf team at the D-3 district meet, played at the Ainsworth Municipal Golf Course. The Bobcats ended the day with two district medalists and district runners-up in the team standings, qualifying the team for the NSAA Boys State Golf Championships.
The Bobcats finished with a team total 365, 10 strokes off the pace set by district champions Neligh- Oakdale.
Dawson Doggett led the Bobcats, shooting an 86 on the day to finish in 7th place. He was followed closely by Cache Gracey in 9th place with 87.
Joey Sallach shot 94 to finish 20th overall, while Haydn Stretesky shot 98 for 29th place. Harper Johnson was not far behind with an even 100 strokes to finish 33rd in the field of 70 golfers.
The top three teams in district play, along with the top 10 individuals (plus ties) advance to the state tournament. The Class D boys state golf tournament will be played next Monday and Tuesday, May 21 and 22, at Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte.
Other area state qualifiers from the D-3 district meet are Colin Cooksley of Anselmo-Merna, who finished in 2nd place overall with 80, Brady Haake of Sandhills-Thedford who shot 81 for 5th place, and Anselmo-Merna’s Aaron Bartak who came in 6th with 83. The three qualifying teams from the district are Neligh-Oakdale, South Loup, and Anselmo-Merna, who finished in that order.
