Bobcats Earn Second-Place Team Plaque, Four Medals
In their final regular-season meet of 2026, the South Loup golf team traveled to Mullen on Wednesday, May 13, where they were one of eight schools represented in the tournament. The Bobcats ended the day in second place in the overall team standings, with four of the five varsity members finishing in the top 10 and earning medals.
Mullen had both the low team score and low individual score of the day. Ben Werner shot a 76 to finish 1st, followed by his teammate Jacob Walker in second with 79. The Broncos carded a 372 as a team.
The Bobcats were only 6 strokes behind the lead, ending the day with a team total of 378. Haydn Stretesky once again led the team, shooting 48 and 43 for a total of 91. That was good for the fourth-place medal.
Though Crew Witthuhn was only one shot back, there were several golfers bunched up in the 91 and 92 scores. Crew’s 45 and 47 for a 92 total landed him in seventh place overall.
Also finishing with a 92 was Callan Witthuhn, after shooting a 44 on the first 9 and 48 on the back to earn the eighth-place medal.
Kyson Stretesky picked up the 10th-place medal with a 51 and 52 for a 103, while Dawson Downing shot 58 and 55 for a 113 total.
Other schools at the Mullen Invite were Anselmo-Merna, Broken Bow JV, Hyannis, Mullen, Mullen JV, Sandhills/Thedford, and Sandhills Valley.
The district golf meet was held on Monday, May 18, in Ainsworth. As has been the case most of the season, Haydn Stretesky led the Bobcats, finishing the tournament with a 91, good for 13th place overall. Callen Witthuhn shot 101, Crew Witthuhn 110, Kyson Stretesky 119, and Dawson Downing 122.
Unfortunately, the district meet brought the season to an end for the South Loup golfers.
