Bobcats Claim Men's Conference Title
It was a good day to be a Bobcat, as the South Loup boys’ track team was crowned MNAC champs with the Lady Bobcats finishing third in team scoring at the conference meet on Thursday, April 25.
Individual gold medals for the Bobcats were won by Logan Recoy who ran his fastest time to date in the 800m, Rio Remund in the shot put, and Ethan Furne in long jump. Remund also earned the silver medal in discus with his best toss of the year. Caleb McFate turned in his best time of the season in the 300m hurdles to claim the silver medal, as did Josiah Coleman in the 3200m. Also getting a PR at the conference meet was Dawson Mason, who finished second in the high jump.
All three of the men’s relay teams finished with silver medals. The 4x100m team consists of Conner Paulsen, Dylan Pandorf, Trey Connell, and Ethan Furne. Pandorf, Paulsen, and Furne are joined by Logan Recoy in the 4x400 relay. Teaming up in the 4x800 relay were Paxton Bierman, Uotong Haidle, Dawson Mason, and Elijah Cool.
Meanwhile, the ladies showed their speed as the 4x400 team finished first, the 4x800 team second, and the 4x100 team third. The gold medal-winning 4x400 team consisted of Jade Bierman, Erin Fitzgerald, Ella Cool, and Ivy Tullis. The same foursome teamed up in the 4x800m, while Fitzgerald joined Asa Starr, Bryn Schwarz, and Charli Vickers for the 4x100 team. Vickers also claimed the thirdplace medal in the 300m hurdles.
Bierman turned in her best time in the 800m to earn the silver medal, while Cool picked up the silver in both the 1600m and 3200m. In field events, Bierman and Starr finished one and two in the high jump, and Schwarz took gold in the women’s pole vault.
The Bobcat track teams will be back in action on Friday in Arnold with events beginning at 9:30 a.m.
