Bobcats Add Two More Wins To Their Record
A powerful snowstorm forced a long break in the Bobcat boys basketball schedule, but they continued to easily defeat their opponents this week in play at home and added two more Ws to their record of 8-1.
Thursday evening, the Bobcats hosted the Sandhills/ Thedford Knights in Arnold and despite a close first quarter, ended up winning by 25 points - 58-33. This was their sixth straight win by more than 20 points this season.
The first quarter brought even scoring by both teams - 9 points for the Bobcats and 8 for the Knights. But South Loup turned on the heat in the second quarter, and headed into the locker room with a solid 10-point lead, 27-17. The Bobcats continued to steamroll the Knights, putting another 15 points on the board, to extend their lead to 42-23. The fourth quarter was much of the same, but with the bench getting some playing time and still adding another 16 points.
Cache Gracey put up 16 points on the night and was 100 percent from the free-throw line. Trey Connell also was flawless at the free-throw line and added another 12 points on the board. Joey Sallach scored 11 points, as well. Freshman Crew Witthuhn added a 3-pointer in the third quarter, to the cheers of the crowd.
Connell led the team in rebounds with 6, followed by Sallach and Silas Cool with 4 rebounds each.
The JV team also added an easy win to the night, beating the Knights 41-29 in three quarters. Sophomore Harper Johnson scored 10 points, followed by freshman Conner Paulsen with 9 points, and Dylan Pandorf with 7 points. AJ Starr had 6 rebounds, and Witthuhn added 4 more.
On Saturday, the Bobcats hosted Bertrand at Callaway, and walked away with another win, 48-31. Stats for this game were not available by press time.
The Bobcats had a rescheduled game on Monday in Hershey, but results were not available by press time.
The JV will play on Friday at 4:30 in Callaway against Maxwell. The varsity game will begin around 7:30 p.m. The Bobcats beat Maxwell in their holiday tournament in December.
Saturday the team will host Brady in Arnold. JV starts at 3 p.m., with varsity around 5:30 p.m.
