Bobcat Golfers Have Tough Day On The Course
While the weather was just about the opposite of ideal for golf, the South Loup Bobcats made the best of it at the Hershey Panther Invite at Water’s Edge Golf Course in North Platte last Thursday.
The varsity team finished in 9th place with 422 points, on the only 18-hole course the team will see prior to the district meet in May. A technical course with plenty of water hazards and trees proved difficult for the Bobcats.
“I think our young golfers were a little intimidated,” said Coach Jarod Rush.
Dawson Doggett led the Bobcats with a 96, which was only three strokes behind the top 20 golfers. He stayed consistent with 49 on the front nine and 47 on the back nine. This is a new best score for him this season.
Joey Sallach shot a 102 in his second meet of the season - 49 on the front nine and 53 on the back. Brady Brestel scored consistently, as well with 56 on the front and 55 on the back for a total of 111.
Grant Hrupek was a few strokes behind with a 113 total, and Dylan Handley with 114 total.
The JV team had two golfers participate. Harper Johnson scored a 120 and freshman Haydn Stretesky had 125 strokes.
“Our putting was not good - lots of three and four putts,” said Coach Rush. “I’m hoping we can learn from it and become more consistent.”
The Bobcats hit the links again at Thedford on Thursday with tee-off at 10 a.m.
