Body

June Helen (Roork) Sheppard, 80 of Callaway, passed away on Oct. 26, 2025, at Kearney Regional Hospital. June was born on July 8, 1945, in Bridgeton, New Jersey to Isaac Evans and Helen (Meyers) Roork.

She graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1963 and attended Trenton State College in New Jersey, earning a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1967, with a certificate for secondary teaching.

Later in her career she attended Kearney State College and completed an endorsement in gifted education.

This endorsement allowed her to contribute this expertise to summer enrichment programs. June also provided her skills for extensive substitute teaching in area schools and had a teaching position in New Port school district in 1991-1992. June was also an integral part in maintaining Seven Springs water bottling in Long Pine, and just prior to her retirement she was a member of a team of representatives for Technologent Industries in Ainsworth. June had a passion for many of the simple joys in life and was always appreciative of everything. First and foremost, June was a loving mother to her three children. She was a master at teaching — sharing and encouraging in every setting to include organ, piano, and 4-H. She cherished her yard filled with beautiful flowers and spent countless hours listening to and studying the birds she fed there. She will always be remembered for fearlessly driving cross country to visit friends and family with her loving companion, Claddagh. Throughout her life June gained a lot of peace from the act of creating. Her talents have produced a multitude of unique and well-loved gifts her friends and family will always cherish. Art has been a consistent outlet for her, although the medium and canvas have changed. She was accomplished at all needlework, sewing, quilting, drawing, painting and most recently her specialty, textile art. All of her creativity and talent was realized when her palette became denim and brush strokes were fabric and thread.

June is lovingly remembered by her children, Michelle (Sheppard) Smith and Dan Smith of Lincoln, Blake Sheppard of Lincoln, and Lynette (Sheppard) Svenson and Dana Svenson of Callaway; her nine grandchildren, Alea and Tyler Pflueger, Evan and Brielyn Smith, Carly and Garrett Kraus, Brett Sheppard, Regan Sheppard, Harley and Keaton Hope, Hunter Willis, Ellana Willis and fiance James Mahon, and Madison Svenson; three great-grandchildren, Connor Pflueger, Faithlynn and Jaxton Hope; sister, Charlotte (Roork) Lang of Greenwich, New Jersey; niece and nephew, Beth O'Neal and Scott Lang and their families; and many cherished friends who were very close to her heart.

June was preceded in death by her parents; brother- in-law, A.D. 'Bud' Lang; nephew, Wayne Lang; and several especially dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor her with a donation to the Callaway Rural Fire and Rescue Department, 108 S Kimball Street Box 73, Callaway, NE 68825.

Private Family Services will be held at a later date.
