After sitting out the entire last season due to a shoulder injury, junior Dawson Doggett punched his ticket for this year’s state wrestling tournament in Omaha at 195 pounds at the District D1 tournament in Pender last weekend.

Doggett (23-9) pinned his first opponent, Carson Bolz of Osmond, in the quarterfinal round on Friday to move ahead to the semifinals on Saturday, where he went six minutes against Mason Topp of Winside, but lost by decision 5-2. He dropped down to the consolation semifinals where he pinned Tyler Kastl of Aquinas Catholic in 3:39. In the third place match, Doggett lost to Chase Thomas of Neligh-Oakdale 4-0 and secured his place at the state tournament.

Doggett will face Keegan Shuler of Hitchcock County in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.

The remainder of the team saw their season end at districts, but they still saw successes throughout the weekend At 106 pounds, Josiah Coleman (25-15) won by major decision 9-1 over Axton Lantz of Wisner-Pilger in the quarterfinals; fell to Grady Romshek of Aquinas Catholic in 1:19 in the semifinals; and lost by decision 9-4 to Symon Kastl of Aquinas Catholic in the consolation semifinals.

Zane Ellison (11-16) also at 106 pounds fell to Romshek in 42 seconds in the quarterfinals; and fell to Cooper Woollen of Wilcox-Hildreth in 1:00 in the second round of consolations.

Freshman Paxton Bierman (21-21) was pinned by Angel Rodriguez of Cambridge in 1:07 in the quarterfinals; but fought back to beat Landon Carlson of Winside in 4:43 in the second round of consolations; but lost by major decision 11-2 to Nate Sanderson of Pender in the third round of consolations.

At 120 pounds, Bo Brennan (28-16) pinned Kaedean Schwarting of Elgin Pope John in 1:38 in the first round; and pinned Trent Mefford of Aquinas Catholic in 2:43 during the quarterfinals. He was pinned by Carter Beckman of Elgin Pope John in 2:51 in the semifinals; and fell to Carson Whitesel of Neligh-Oakdale in 2:19 in the consolation semifinals.

Dawson Mason (31-12) at 132 pounds lost by decision 8-2 to Colin Hough of Aquinas Catholic in the second round; pinned Jack Barlow of Elgin Pope John in 2:40 in the third round of consolations; and lost by decision 9-2 to Jesse Thiele of Summerland in the fourth round of consolations.

At 138 pounds, CJ Quandt (25-19) faced Bo Pokorny of Central Valley for the third time this season during the second round and was pinned in 4:37; then went on to pin Brodrick Crippen of Pender in 2:37; but was pinned by Kaden Kment of Stanton in 2:39.

Dylan Handley (5-23) at 145 pounds was pinned by Kelby Coufal of Aquinas Catholic in 1:04 in the first round; pinned Samuel Shadbolt of Homer in 55 seconds in the second round of consolations; and lost by tech fall 15-0 to Carson Tomasek of Stanton.

At 160 pounds, Jamie Tickle (8-15) was pinned by Keegan Poppe of Wisner-Pilger in 1:33 in the first round; pinned Sam Hilger of Aquinas Catholic in 2:14 in the first round of consolations; and was pinned by AJ Hobbs of Summerland in 2:08 in the second round of consolations.

Sophomore Kyle Bloomer at 182 pounds (3-22) was pinned by Dylan Linkous of Pender in 25 seconds in the first round; and was pinned by Mason Johnson of Wilcox-Hildreth in 15 seconds in the second round of consolations.
