Bobcat Wrestlers Bring Home Hardware From Opening Meet

The Bobcat grapplers opened their season on Friday in Eustis at the Hi-Line Invitational tournament, bringing home hardware and getting some vital mat time for the young team. The Bobcats finished in 11th place with 63 points.

Sophomore Dawson Mason finished first at 132 pounds, pinning Hunter Jorschumb of Arapahoe in 0:52; pinning Dominic Kyle of Overton in 4:50 in the semifinals; and winning by decision 9-2 over Mason Toner of Perkins County in the finals.

CJ Quandt placed third at 138 pounds, winning by decision over Aidan Shutts of Hi-Line in the quarterfinals; losing in a tech fall to Cauy Kohl of Sutherland 17-2 in the semifinals; pinning Corbin Carpenter of Arapahoe in 2:13 in the consolation semifinals; and beating Shutts again in the 3rd place match by a decision of 7-1.

Freshman Paxton Bierman brought home a 4th place medal at 113 pounds. He pinned Cian McCorkle of Arapahoe in 5:01 in the quarterfinals; was pinned by Angel Rodriguez of Cambridge in 1:22 in the seminal round; was pinned by Zack Christner of Hi-Line in the consolation semifinal round by 2:17; and lost by decision 8-14 to Luke Gardner of Garden County in the 3rd place match.

At 106 pounds, freshman Josiah Coleman was pinned by Collin Shutts of Hi-Line in 3:39 in the quarterfinal round fell to Grady Dempcy of Sutherland in 3:24 in the semifinal round; lost by decision 4-10 by Lorenzo Santos, Lexington in the consolation semifinal round.

Freshman Zane Mercer wrestled at 113 pounds as well. In the first round, he was pinned by Zack Christner of Hi-Line in 0:54; was pinned by Cian McCorkle of Araphoe in 2:45 in the consolation semifinals; and pinned by Dominic Williams of Perkins County in 2:28 in the third round of consolations.

Sophomore Bo Brennan grappled at 126 pounds, pinning Wyatt Kyle of Overton in 1:43 in the first round; pinned Tony Lyon of Perkins County in 5:02 in the quarterfinal round; was stuck by Oliver Nutter of Sutherland in 3:11 in the semifinals; and was pinned by Jacob Smith of Dundy County-Stratton in 2:53 in the consolation semifinal round.

At 145 pounds, Dylan Handley was pinned by Titus Goshert of Arapahoe in 3:25 in the first round; and was stuck by Kohan Grindle of Cambridge in 3:25 in the second round of consolations.

Up next for the Bobcats is the Twin Loup invite at Sargent on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. and the Anselmo-Merna Invite on Saturday at 10 a.m.
