New Coaches Looking For Leadership From Five Seniors
With all new coaching staff on board, the South Loup Lady Bobcats basketball team is looking forward to a successful season in 2022-23.
Head Coach Bryon Hanson is excited to lead the Lady Bobcats this season, with help from Brooke Moore, and to see what the five returning seniors accomplish this season.
“I am also excited about some of the younger athletes who are working their tails off in practice,” said Hanson. “I am looking forward to seeing how much they improve over the course of the season.”
Despite graduating five seniors last year, the Bobcats still have a plethora of talent returning to play this season - seniors Taylor Ross, Abby Stallbaumer, Halie Recoy, Ava Pandorf, and Lauryn Johnson; as well as juniors Bryn Schwarz, Delaney Rogers, Maggie Birkel, Josie Reiff and Jazzlynn Bechtold.
Last season the Lady Bobcats had a 18-5 record and were Mid-Nebraska Activities Conference (MNAC) champions. The losses they did endure were close games against Amherst, Pleasanton, SEM, Medicine Valley, and a sub-district loss to Southern Valley.
“Competing in the conference is always a challenge,” said Hanson. “We hope to improve throughout the year and be in a position to compete for a conference title.”
As for what the Lady Bobcats are focusing on right now, Hanson is telling them to appreciate each practice and each game.
“We are looking forward to each opportunity to play,” he said. “Each game is important and right now our entire focus is on Twin Loup.”
The Lady Bobcats will open play on Friday in Callaway against Twin Loup. The JV will take the court at 4 p.m., followed by varsity at 6 p.m.
