Callaway a Stop on Tour de Nebraska Trail
The thing about being a friendly town located in the heart of beautiful hills and valleys, is that travelers like to visit. And this summer Callaway has become a mecca for bicyclists. Just this week the community hosted nearly 400 BRAN riders, and now the local Chamber of Commerce and community volunteers are gearing back up for Tour de Nebraska. This tour is expected to have about 400 bikers pass through Callaway on Thursday, June 23.
Riders are expected to arrive between 7:30-10 a.m. and will depart Callaway around noon. The Chamber is still in need of volunteers to help put signs up around town prior to the riders’ arrival, as well as folks who will hang around downtown to visit, mix and mingle and greet bikers. Basically to just serve as community hosts.
The bikers will travel from Callaway on to Oconto and then back to Broken Bow that evening. Groups, organizations or individuals are needed to provide a few snacks at remote stops along the route - one on top of Democrat Hill and possibly one half way to Oconto. “This is a chance for a local group or organization to make some money,” said Chamber president Ken Pitkin. If anyone is interested in hosting a remote location for snacks and drinks let a Chamber Officer know.
Callaway Public School will have their ice cream machine up and running to serve along with the commons area open for a spot for riders to cool down and charge their devices.
