Smith vs The State: Bobcat Golfer Playing Last High School Rounds
For Colbi Smith, the last rounds of his high school career began on May 24 at Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte.
The senior golfer began play in the Class D NSAA State Golf Championships and head coach Jarod Rush said he took advantage of the time leading up to that event to help his golfer get ready to go.
"Colbi got a couple rounds in last week and he is a veteran,” Rush said. “We played it last year at state and he is experienced enough that he knows what he needs to do.”
The weather the past couple of days has not been as cooperative as Rush had hoped, and actually doused the plans they had for a round on Monday.
“We went to get one more practice round,” he said. “We played about three holes and the rain came down pretty hard, so we just drove the course and talked about each hole.”
Rush said he was proud of his golfer and was looking forward to the state rounds.
“I’m just excited to watch him play one more match,” he said. “I know what kind of round he can put together.”
Smith was scheduled to tee off at the State Golf Tournament at Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte at 9:36 a.m. on May 24.
Play continued on May 25.
