Callaway Chamber of Commerce members and community residents gathered at the Callaway Community Center on Sunday, April 26, to honor the 2026 Citizen of the Year. While the annual Chamber award is typically presented to a local individual, a group of people was named this year’s honorees - the staff of Callaway Good Life Center.

“Tonight isn’t just about awards or titles; it’s about recognizing everyday heroes who show up with compassion, patience, and dedication day after day,” said Kayla Berg with the Callaway Chamber.

After enjoying a taco bar and potluck sides provided by Chamber members, the business of the evening - presenting the award - commenced.

The Callaway Good Life Center staff was nominated for the Citizens of the Year award by Janel Brestel and Kelly Herbig of Senior Life Solutions, who came forward and shared their letter of nomination. That letter read in part: “Over the past year, this organization has faced significant organizational and workforce challenges. However, what sets the Callaway Good Life Center apart is how the team responded. Rather than allowing these challenges to divide them, the staff rose to the occasion. Managers worked shifts on the floor, assisted with resident care, and made sure no gap was left unfilled. At the same time, CNAs, nurses, dietary staff, housekeeping and maintenance went above and beyond. They picked up extra shifts, supported one another, and maintained a standard of compassion and professionalism that never waivered. They have a deep sense of pride and ownership across all departments, creating a unified effort to move the organization forward.”

Congratulations Callaway Good Life Center, and thank you for all you do!
