Bobcats Open Golf Season Against Strong Competition
The South Loup men’s golf team opened the 2026 season on Thursday, April 2, at Amherst. Both varsity and JV teams competed in the 11-team invitational, with the Bobcats finishing in 7th place overall in the team standings at the end of the day.
Kearney Catholic shot the low team score of the day of 325, followed by Hershey and Centura to round out the top three. Other schools participating in the meet were Amherst, Burwell, Axtell, SEM, Wilcox Hildreth, and Pleasanton, with Amherst also fielding two JV teams.
Individually, Nash Malone of Kearney Catholic had the low score of 76, as the Stars claimed the top three spots. Haydn Stretesky led the way for the Bobcats with 100, tying Aydan Power of Centura to finish in 18th place.
Crew Witthuhn was right behind his teammate, finishing the day with a 101 for 19th place. Callan Witthuhn narrowly missed the top 20, shooting a 110 and finishing 24th. Dawson Downing, new to the golf team this year, ended the day with 134 strokes.
The Bobcats will be back on the course on Friday, April 10, when they host a meet in Arnold. Tee time is set for 10 a.m.
