The Bobcats traveled to Elwood last Thursday, April 2, and came home with some hardware for their efforts. Both the boys and girls track team competed in a field of 13 teams, each coming home with 4th place overall.

On the men’s side, South Loup athletes hit the top ten 19 times across 17 events, with a gold medal in the 1600-meter run from Elijah Cool topping their day. The 4x800 Relay featuring Jaden Baker, Cool, Josiah Coleman and Walter Bierman finished in second to solidify the distance runners’ big efforts, while Noah Anderson lobbed the shot put nearly a foot further than last week to nab the bronze medal.

The ladies had an exceptional day on the track and on the field, collecting 16 top-10 finishes including two gold, three silver and one bronze. EvaLynn Wonch led the discus event, earning first place with her throw of 108’ 9”, and the 4x100m Relay secured the other gold for the day, with team members Asa Starr, Erin Fitzgerald, Rae Hagler and Olivia Fitzgerald running a blistering 52.82 to secure the top spot.

Erin Fitzgerald carried her turn of speed over to the 200m and 400m, nabbing a second-place finish in each. The distance runners picked up the slack in the 4x800m Relay as Delanie Weinman, Chloe Coleman, Lynae Wiese and Jade Bierman crossed the line at 11:26.52 for the silver medal.

The Bobcats compete next at home tomorrow, Friday, April 10, as they host the South Loup Bobcat Invite in Arnold. The first event starts at 10 a.m.
