Lady Bobcats Win Blevins Invitational
The Lady Bobcats continued their dominance on May 6 as they won the Dave Blevins Invitational at the Arnold High School track. Coach Weverka's throwers scored very well and were highlighted by the school record performance of Abby Stallbaumer, tossing the discus 133 feet, 4 inches to break the record previously held by Jessi Sallach. Also placing in the discus were Mya Weverka in fourth, and Riata Remund in sixth.
The field events continued to yield a point bonanza for the Lady Bobcats as Isabelle Stallbaumer won the shot put, Reagan Cool won the pole vault, Bryn Eggleston took second in the pole vault, Charli Vickers took gold in the high jump with a personal best of 4 feet, 10 inches, and Josyln Reiff and Annalee Starr placed third and fifth respectively in the high jump with jumps of 4 feet, 8 inches. Annalee Starr also placed fifth in the triple jump.
The Lady Bobcats left the field events and headed to the track with a commanding 25-point lead after scoring 62 points in the field and it wouldn't be relinquished on the track. The lead remained despite many of the girls taking a chance to rest.
The wins began immediately as the quartet of Ivy Tullis, Ella Cool, Heidi Donegan and Tallianna Martin won the first event, the 4x800 meter relay in a season-best time.
In the next event of the morning, the 400 meter run, Abby Stallbaumer continued her record-breaking day in a season's best in the 400 meters with a bronze medal finish while the distance duo of Ella Cool and Faith Bierman placed fourth and sixth in the 3200 meter.
The afternoon events began with Vickers placing third and Irelynn Rosfeld fifth in the 100 meter hurdles.
The sprinting duo of Halie Recoy and Bryn Schwarz as well as the normal 800 meter runners rested this meet with some minor injuries, so these events uncharacteristically yielded no points.
Martin scorched the field in winning the 1600 meter, and Vickers and Ava Pandorf placed third and sixth in the 300 meter hurdles. The final event of the meet yielded the one last gold medal of the day, as Tullis, Abby Stallbaumer, Taylor Ross and Schwarz outdistanced the field to win the 1600 meter relay .
The Lady Bobcats scored 126 team points for the meet title, winning by more than 25 points over the second place team, North Platte St. Pat's.
South Loup’s girls track team has some time to get their legs back before heading into district action at Southern Valley on May 12.
