As the South Loup Bobcats wrestling team gears up for the 2025-26 season, Head Coach Todd Phelps enters his eighth year with the program and seventh as head coach, bringing experience and steady leadership to the mat. Assisting him this year are Gavin Robertson and Zac Sweet, who will help guide both the varsity squad and younger wrestlers.

The Bobcats will rely on leadership from their two seniors, Paxton Bierman and Josiah Coleman, who Coach Phelps says are “great leaders and should have a great year.” Juniors Ryan Lords and Noah Hiatt, who have shown consistent improvement over the years, are expected to continue their upward trajectory. The varsity roster also features promising underclassmen, including freshmen Jacob King and Blake Robertson, first-year junior Ben Linden, and first-year senior Eli Hunt.

Coach Phelps emphasized the team’s main goal: consistent improvement. “Goals for this season are to improve every week,” he said. With eight boys on the varsity squad, the Bobcats are aiming to build depth, skill, and teamwork throughout the season.

In addition to the varsity wrestlers, several 7th and 8th graders are joining practices, including Cruz Mason, Rowdie Lynch, Layne Hogg, Quinten Boeser, Dagen Fletcher, Daniel Coleman, and Jose Melendez. While attendance varies depending on practice location, these younger wrestlers provide a strong foundation for the program’s future.

With experienced leaders, motivated juniors, and eager underclassmen, the South Loup Bobcats wrestling team looks to grow each week, strengthen the program, and compete with determination throughout the season.

The Bobcats will travel to Eustis for their first meet hosted by the Hi-Line Bulls on Friday, Dec. 5, starting at 10 a.m.
