Bell Ringing Kicks Off This Week
Bells will start ringing this week in Custer County as the Salvation Army kicks off their annual bell ringing campaign on Friday, Nov. 21.
Bell ringing chairman, Phil Sloat, said there are two main Red Kettle locations this year in Broken Bow – at Grocery Kart and Tractor Supply. He asks the public to keep an eye out for a traveling bell stand at other locations in Broken Bow.
Red Kettles also will be located at the Sargent Corner Market in Sargent and at Reed’s Food Center in Arnold. There are smaller counter kettles in businesses all over Custer County.
Bell ringing volunteers are needed, Sloat said, and the Salvation Army invites anyone to sign up by accessing the link on the Facebook page: Salvation Army – Custer County, Nebraska.
“We sincerely appreciate everyone’s help with bell ringing and all those who donate to the Red Kettles,” Sloat said. “Your contributions help the local Salvation Army do so many good things.”
Donations help fund the Back-to-School book bag and school supplies giveaway every summer, medical assistance with vision, dental and prescription services, emergency assistance and emergency lodging for victims of fires, storms, etc., and Santa Cop gifts for children in need.
The funds also provide financial support for Custer County food pantries, the Children’s Christmas Fund, swim lessons, Prairie Pioneer Center meals and the Weekend Backpack food program, Book Fairs and emergency clothing for Custer County students.
Sloat noted that 90% of the funds raised locally stay right here in Custer County. The local Salvation Army does not send out letters asking for donations.
If you would like to donate and keep it local, drop your donations into a Red Kettle in Custer County or send them to Custer County Salvation Army, 116 S 11th Avenue, Broken Bow, NE 68822.
