It was a disappointing night for the South Loup Bobcats last Friday, as they hosted the Ravenna Bluejays at home. Ravenna came to the field with a 7-0 record, and served up a shut-out in the first half of the game.

The Bobcats put up a fight in the third, getting into the endzone once and adding a 2pt conversion, but unfortunately, those would be the only points scored by the beleaguered team. Ravenna ended the night with a decisive victory of 46-8 over South Loup.

Senior Conner Paulsen rushed for 91 yards, averaging just 2.9 yards on 31 carries, one of which ended in the Bobcats’ lone score. Elijah Cool ran in the 2pt conversion shortly after. Crew Witthuhn posted 45 yards rushing, and Dylan Pandorf ran for 27. Comparatively, Ravenna’s top two rushers posted 145 and 133 yards, heading to a team total of 317 rushing yards for the night. The Bluejays added 83 yards through the air.

South Loup carved out 171 yards on the ground, with no passing attempts.

On the defensive side, the Bobcats fought hard to make some things happen, with Paulsen and Tysen Schacher each picking off a pass from Ravenna’s Trenton Wedemeyer, who went 4/7 on attempts.

Paulsen also led the team in tackles, with 3 solo and 11 assists. Witthuhn followed close behind, contributing 4 solo tackles and 8 assists, and Pandorf finished the game with 10 total tackles.

Dropping to 2-5 on the season, South Loup has another challenging match ahead this week. The Bobcats travel to Arcadia for their final regular season game against the 6-1 Arcadia/Loup City Rebels tonight, Oct.

16. Kickoff is set for 7 pm.
