All-Star Classic Features South Loup Grads
The 2025 Nebraska Sertoma 8-man All-Star Classic football game was played on Saturday, June 21, at Lloyd Wilson Field in Hastings. The 48th annual game featured some of the top 8-man players from across the state, including South Loup’s AJ Starr. South Loup head football coach Mat Jageler also had the honor of being selected as an assistant coach for the West team, and was given the opportunity to coach Starr one last time.
Unfortunately, the West team did not come out on the winning end of the scoreboard, as the East team’s defense came up with four interceptions to lead them to a 14-8 win over the West, who had won the previous three contests.
Joining Starr on the West team was Caden Zutavern of Sandhills/Thedford. Between the first and second quarters of the June 21 game, last year’s Offensive MVP was recognized. That All-Star is former South Loup player Trey Connell. The MVPs are recognized and presented with a personalized trophy depicting the honor they received.
Connell recently completed his freshman year at Doane University where he plays basketball for the Doane Tigers. He is majoring in physical and health education.
