Lady Bobcats Split Conference Games
The Lady Bobcats began their busy week of conference basketball on Monday, Jan. 27, when they traveled to Mullen to meet the number two seed Lady Broncos in the first round. The Bobcats were never able to get rolling against the tough Mullen defense, managing to get only 10 points on the board.
Addi Stump put up 3 of the team's points, while Neltje Reiff, Emma Stallbaumer, and Rae Hagler each added two.
The loss dropped South Loup down into the consolation bracket where they faced Sandhills Valley on Friday, Jan. 31. This time the Bobcats were finding success with their shots as they scored 7 points in the first quarter while holding the Mavericks to 4 points. The Bobcats added nother 7 points in the second while their defense allowed only 2 to give the Lady Bobats a 14-6 lead heading into halftime.
The Mavericks regrouped during the break and scored more points in the third period than they did the entire first half, with 9. Meanwhile, they held the Lady Bobcats to just 4 points in the third.
Heading into the final period the teams exchanged points and played aggressive defense, finishing the period with each adding 9 points to the board. The cushion the Lady Bobcats had built in the first half paid off, as they came away with a 27-24 win.
Jade Bierman led the scoring for South Loup with 8 points, with Asa Starr close behind with 6 points. Reiff added 5, Stallbaumer 4, Hagler 2, and Tyra Brestel and Erin Fitzgerald each contributed a free throw toward the victory.
