The Lady Bobcats basketball team came out fighting strong against the Maxwell Wildcats on Jan. 17. The girls had a very strong first half, scoring 15 points in the first quarter down by only three against a strong team with a 6-8 record.

Sophomore Asa Starr had an impressive game, scoring 12 points. Starr said she couldn’t have done it without her teammates. “I was really proud of how we all played,” she said. “We handled their pressure well and played really well as a team. This gave us the momentum we needed to play better than we have all season.”

The final score of 27-63 was not reflective of how well the girls played. This was a high-scoring game for the Bobcats, second only to their 36-point win against Sandhills Valley earlier in the season.

The Lady Bobcats hosted Brady in Arnold on Saturday, Jan. 18, and while they scored the most points they've had this season it wasn't quite enough. They fell 39-51.

Jade Bierman led the scoring for the Lady Cats with 10 points, while Starr contributed 5. EvaLynn Wonch and Ivy Tullis each had 4 points.

South Loup hosted Arcadia/Loup City at Callaway on Tuesday, and will meet Ansley-Litchfield this evening (Jan. 23) in Arnold. Tip-off for the girls’ varsity game is set for 6 p.m.

The Lady Bobcats will face Mullen in the first round of the MNAC tournament on Monday, Jan. 27, at Mullen beginning at 7 p.m. CST.
