Bobcats Are Off To A Great Start On The Track

The Bobcat track teams both brought home runners- up honors at the Hi-Line track meet in Elwood on Thursday. This was a finals-only meet due to the forecasted weather rolling in. The Lady Bobcats scored 92 points to place second behind Elm Creek despite having three strong athletes absent. The boys were only four points behind Bertrand, to come in second with 87 points. The Bobcats were the top team in the combined team scores.

Cache Gracey, Silas Cool, Logan Recoy, and Dylan Pandorf added to their collection of gold medals - Gracey in the 400 with a time of 51.51 seconds; Cool in the 800 with a time of 2:07.57; and Recoy in the 1600 with a time of 4:57.62.

Gracey is currently ranked 3rd in the state in Class C for his times in the 400. Cool is ranked 5th in the 800, and Recoy 5th in the 1600.

The boys 4x400 relay, consisting of Gracey, Pandorf, Cool, and Recoy finished first in 3:38.32; and the boys 4x800 relay also finished first in 8:55.45. That team includes Trey Connell, Dawson Mason, Cool, and Recoy.

The Bobcat 4x400 and 4x800 relays are also ranked 3rd in the state.

“To win the 400, 800, and 1600 was great,” said head coach Lane Chesley. “Cache, Silas, Logan and Dylan are exceptional runners and had a really great day.”

In the field, Rio Remund and Lance Jones also had a day full of successes as Remund placed 3rd in the discus with a distance of 127’1” and 2nd in the shot put with a distance of 48’8.5”. Jones was 2nd in the discus with a throw of 135’10” and 4th in the shot put with a distance of 42’10”.

The girls team not only brought home a handful of medals, but Charli Vickers set a new co-op record in the 300 hurdles with a time of 51.20 seconds beating Jordan Rush’s record of 51.50 seconds in 2012.

Vickers placed 2nd in both the 100 and 300 hurdles, in addition to breaking the Bobcat record.

Senior Talli Martin placed 1st in the 1600 and 3200, with times of 6:01.32 and 13:01.36, respectively. The girls 4x100 relay with members Erin Fitzgerald, Josie Reiff, Vickers, and Halie Recoy, finished 1st with a time of 54.73.

The Bobcats also brought home 3 of the top 4 medals in the 1600 with Ivy Tullis finishing 3rd and Ella Cool, 4th. Ella Cool also finished 2nd behind Talli in the 3200. Freshman Fitzgerald placed 2nd in the 400 with a time of 1:06.48.

The girls also have top 10 ranked athletes in Class C in the state. Martin is ranked 5th in the 1600 and 6th in the 3200. Vickers is ranked 10th in the 100 hurdles and 6th in the 300 hurdles.

Setting new personal records this week include Ella Cool in the 1600; Martin in the 3200; Clay Witthuhn in

the shot put and discus; and Jones and Rio Remund in the discus.

The Bobcats will host their home meet on Thursday in Arnold, then travel to Hershey on Tuesday for their rescheduled meet.
