PROFILE MAINSTREET: The End of an Era

Body On Friday, March 11 Callaway bid farewell to a long-time business. For nearly three decades, The Corner Stop has greeted travelers passing through town, as well as locals needing some fuel or minor car repairs, and a morning coffee crew.

The Courier Through The Years

Body This issue is the first issue in the 55th volume of the Callaway Courier. We have archives that date back a bit, so we did a bit of a dive into some things that have happened in Callaway.
March 5, 1998 - PHOTO 98 Dist. Champs: The Callaway Lady Bears won the District Championship to earn a trip to the State Basketball tournament. Members of that team include Sara Florom, Morgan Myers, assistant coach Darin Ellis, Melissa Scott, Kenna Scheringer, Libs Devine, Milissa Willis, Marci Johnson, Hilary Nichelson, coach Colleen Chapman, Julie Jochum, Linsey Pandorf and Britt Sommer. That team would go on to win the State Runner-Up trophy.

Lower Loup NRD 2022 Photo Contest Open

Body Since announcing the Lower Loup NRD 2022 Photo Contest back in December, the agency has been inundated with a flood of photos. So far, more than 260 images have been submitted by photographers from across the District.

Nominate Your Citizen of the Year

Body Nominations are now open for Callaway Citizen of the Year. Nomination forms can be picked up at Great Western Bank, and are due back to the Chamber by March 15. The Citizen of the Year and Newcomers of the Year will be announced during a special ceremony on Sunday, April 3.

Spaghetti Supper Set For March 16

Body The Callaway Lutheran Church is hosting a Spaghetti Supper on Wednesday, March 16 at the Callaway Community Center. Meals are served for a free will donation. Everyone is invited to attend. The supper will include spaghetti, salad and ice cream. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Fish Fry in Callaway March 1

Body The Knights of Columbus Fish Fry at the Callaway Community Center will be held on Friday, March 18. Serving will be from 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Election Ballot Set; No Challenges in Callaway

Body Those currently holding elected offices had until Feb. 15 to determine if they wished to serve another term and file for re-election, or give up their seat. Meanwhile, nonincumbents seeking to be on the May 10 ballot had until March 1 to file.
Callaway School Board incumbents Liana Hrupek and TR Anderson have both filed for reelection, while Duane Kimball did not.

Family Outings Unearthed Hidden Treasures

Body Donna Hogg has fond memories of days spent with her husband, Wayne, and their three children - Tim, Micki and Roxi - exploring the countryside around Callaway. It was a different time then, without cell phones and video games.
