On Friday, March 11 Callaway bid farewell to a long-time business. For nearly three decades, The Corner Stop has greeted travelers passing through town, as well as locals needing some fuel or minor car repairs, and a morning coffee crew.

Since announcing the Lower Loup NRD 2022 Photo Contest back in December, the agency has been inundated with a flood of photos. So far, more than 260 images have been submitted by photographers from across the District.

Nominations are now open for Callaway Citizen of the Year. Nomination forms can be picked up at Great Western Bank, and are due back to the Chamber by March 15. The Citizen of the Year and Newcomers of the Year will be announced during a special ceremony on Sunday, April 3.

The Callaway Lutheran Church is hosting a Spaghetti Supper on Wednesday, March 16 at the Callaway Community Center. Meals are served for a free will donation. Everyone is invited to attend. The supper will include spaghetti, salad and ice cream. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Greetings from your State Capitol. The Legislature is nearly two thirds of the way through the second session of the 107th Legislature. Each meeting of a Legislature is divided into two sessions over two years.

Those currently holding elected offices had until Feb. 15 to determine if they wished to serve another term and file for re-election, or give up their seat. Meanwhile, nonincumbents seeking to be on the May 10 ballot had until March 1 to file.

Donna Hogg has fond memories of days spent with her husband, Wayne, and their three children - Tim, Micki and Roxi - exploring the countryside around Callaway. It was a different time then, without cell phones and video games.
